Rosacea and Make-up Colour Correction Spring 2025

Post written by Leanne Perilly
Rosacea and redness in the skin is far more common than you think. April was Rosacea Awareness Month, so you’re not alone in the (very often) misery of Rosacea, attempting to treat it with skincare products and cover it with make-up.
Rosacea (and other causes of skin redness) can occur at any age, and make us feel very self-conscious about our appearance, especially when on social media perceived ‘beautiful skin’ is portrayed by perfect looking, flawless skin (which doesn’t exist without makeup and mostly created using AI tools anyway!).
Rosacea can affect our confidence and how we feel about ourselves. Often brought on by varying factors; hormones, stress, diet, lifestyle etc etc…it’s so hard to pinpoint the underlying cause sometimes.
Thankfully, now there are many skin solutions available to buy which treat, reduce and prevent the causes of redness in the skin, and make up / skincare hybrids, these reduce the look of redness without having to resort to applying thick and heavy looking foundation, concealer and camouflage make up formulas.
Often, applying more or higher coverage concealer or foundation doesn’t reduce the look redness in the skin at all and the redness still shows through.
The answer is to counteract this by neutralising with green or yellow toned formulas. Colour correction has been an integral part of makeup application for many years. See the standard Colour wheel image and refer to the opposite colour on the colour wheel to discover the solution to your problem.
I use skincare and makeup hybrid products in my professional kit like this one by South Korean skincare brand Erborian to help reduce the look of redness in my clients’ skin before the application of further make up products.
Erborian Red Correct – Anti redness cream can be applied and worn on its own or underneath foundation / concealer, whichever is the most effective to reduce pinkiness and redness in your skin.
It also has skin soothing benefits to counteract the feeling of Rosacea and related redness.
Cruelty free and available from Space NK, Boots and UK Sephora and with discounts at LOOKFANTASTIC.
Another reducing redness favourite product of mine (tried and tested over many years and one of my favourite priming products for long wearing looks) is by Smashbox – Photo Finish Correct Anti-redness Primer. This contains an Algae Silkscreen complex to soothe skin irritation and is lightly tinted to neutralise redness instantly. It allows the skin to breathe, and I love the way it smooths the look of skin even without make up applied over the top.
